How to Layer Necklaces

I have never been one to wear a lot of jewelry, partially because I’ve always been too busy picking out the perfect outfit that jewelry was an after thought and mostly because my features are so small that an arm full of bracelets or lots of rings never seemed to look right.  But a big trend for jewelry lately has been layering necklaces and I have to say this is one trend I have been currently loving.

orange2When it comes to necklace layering I think you really just have to play around with which necklaces pair well.  Don’t be afraid to mix metals and pieces with pops of color, but a golden rule is there are no rules with this trend.

I really like to start with a choker, I think that’s like your base, then I tend to work my way down.  I like to keep this piece really simple or make it the statement but if you start with something dainty then you can really go any direction with your look.

From there I like to keep the middle or second necklace the most simplistic, whether it’s a tiny chain with a simple pendant or just the chain itself if you utilize a lot of statement necklaces in your layers it’s going to seem busy.

Finally, I really like keeping my layers to about 3 for everyday but like I said you can really play with the number of necklaces and layers I think a max of 5 or 6 dainty necklaces look so chic. For my everyday look, I love having a simple choker the dainty mid length necklace and then for the third I try to add a cool similar styled necklace, but here’s where you can also add something bigger or more of a statement.  If you want to go with something a little more flashy I think a couple different sized chokers, as well as necklaces layered with some very similar lengths, is so cool.
