I let AI do my Color Analysis, these are my thoughts

I’m not sure if it’s due to getting older, working from home, or just not feeling like myself lately, but I’ve been trying to hone my personal style. I’m sick of chasing trends, not feeling like my clothes really speak to who I am. I recently realized what I’ve been spending on clothes, and it’s depressing. I feel like recently I’ve been spending on items to get a dopamine hit, and the minute I wear I,t I immediately hate it and just want to put on the same ratty sweatpants I wear every day. But I’ve had enough.

Working from home has been so challenging because I can’t find that middle ground of comfort and stylish, dressing chic just feels pointless when I’m sitting alone in my house. So I feel like I need to find some way to feel better in my clothes and hone my style. I don’t feel like I’ve really got a good direction for my personal style and want to take the next couple of months to define it.

Over the last couple years, I’ve heard a lot about color analysis, if you are like me and have no idea what it is Color Analysis or Personal Color Analysis is a process of identifying what colors “or seasons” compliment your skin tone and eye color, this can be used for everything from your wardrobe, makeup tones to even the shade of hair you should wear. There are four seasons (obviously), and they are aptly named Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter; within those, you can either be a light or a dark. With all this information and watching hours of videos of other women getting these services, feeling overwhelmed might be an understatement. No matter how many people I watched that I felt like they looked like me, I didn’t feel any closer to knowing what category I fell into.

I wanted to better understand the colors that look best on me and help myself avoid falling into the trap of buying trendy color items that I’ll never feel good wearing. But spending $300 on a consultation just isn’t in the budget for me these days. So I turned to AI to see what it could do.

I opened ChatGPT, shared an image very simple, had normal lighting, and no extra editing, and asked it to do my color analysis. What is nice about AI is that it is very good at using its knowledge base to identify trends, which is essentially what we’re doing with Color Analysis. It uses tones and contrast to identify your season. From its analysis, I fell into two possible categories. Either a Soft Spring or Soft Summer, leaning more toward a Soft Summer. From there, it also gave me colors that look best on me and ones I should avoid, and even built me a cool photo to save for future reference.

Honestly, I have to agree with their analysis. And think this was surprisingly helpful. To double-check the work, I looked to other sources for more details on a soft summer, as well as looking to celebrities in that season, and people like Sabrina Carpenter and Margo Robbie came up. I feel like both have similar complexions to mine, so I knew ChatGPT was on the right track.

Do I think a 1:1 analysis with a professional could be beneficial? Absolutely. Do I also think this is a great place to start understanding what colors could make me feel like I look my best, and experiment in color stories I wouldn’t have often looked at? Also yes. But I also think that everyone should wear what they want and what they love. If your color analysis says red doesn’t look good on you, but you love it anyway, wear that red dress, girl. Would you let AI tell you what to wear?
