“I could never pull that off.” “You look good but that would never look good on me.” I hear this all the time from woman around me, my response is constantly “yes you can, just buy it and wear it. You’re pulling it off.” I think the key to trying new trends and finding your own unique style is confidence. Fashion trends come and go and what I love about this medium is there is no wrong way of expressing yourself.
Now don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t say I’m just over flowing with confidence. I have my days just like everyone else. But I feel like when you find yourself and stop focusing on what other people like and what they are doing you find your confidence increase. In high school I wasn’t really like the other girls in my school, I lived in a very small town and coming from a bigger city was very difficult and really made me feel like I couldn’t be who I was for fear of not fitting in. I expressed myself very differently through the music I listened to and the clothes I wore, I have always been very into fashion even as a girl and by high school I was really pushing the envelope. I got lots of stares and was never really accepted. But in the last few years I have made so much progress loving myself and my style.
I’ve learned that if you like it you should wear it. Don’t let what other people will say hinder you from doing or wearing something you love. Walk into that room tall, with your head up, shoulders back and a strut Beyonce would be proud of. Everyone will be so impressed by your confidence odds are they will see how creative your style is too. If they don’t, their opinions have no bearing on you. There are many other people out there who will understand your vision and love it. As long as you love the piece or outfit that’s all that matters.
Know that if anyone has anything negative to say about you or your style that is just their way of showing their jealousy. I know this may not be easy and it takes a lot of practice but if you take their comments at face level and see it as just jealousy it will make it easier to try even more daring things. As I became more daring with my outfit choices I felt more and more people stoping and talking about my outfits. But as I ignored the comments I felt more empowered to really express myself the way I wanted which brought me so much happiness.
In order to give yourself more confidence you should also encourage others to express themselves. When you send others positive energy they give you back the same. If you’re happy with your own life and what you’ve done with yourself you can share that energy with others and help them become more confident. In turn it will all come back to you.
Love who you are, there isn’t a single person in the world like you. Be confident in your style and you will make all the haters so jealous.
How do you show your confidence?
I needed this, thank you! I really like your style, keep going 🙂
