Color correcting 101

The cosmetic industry is constantly coming up with ways for women to cover up their “imperfections”, create illusions, and change face shapes with the flick of a brush.  The latest trend that people have been buzzing about it color correcting and I’m hooked.  These little miracles are definitely worth looking into.  They are simply little colored concealers that are supposed to counter balance an unwanted coloration.  The trick to color correcting is remembering the color wheel from your elementary school days.

Orange is probably my favorite of the color correcting colors as you can see cancels out blue.  Typically you use the orange to conceal dark circles or unwanted bruises.

Green is the other color I typically use.  As you may guess the green will cancel out any red spots, blemishes, wind burn, or rosacea or sunburns.

Pink will cover age spots, dark spots or dullness. and is a great way to cover dark circles on fairer skin.

Purple will correct any yellow tones, and also combats dullness.

Finally yellow can act as an all over skin evener. Corrects purples, even under eyes.

Typically I use the orange tone to give my under eyes a bit of a boost under my concealer as well as the green for any blemishes I have that day.  This stuff is great and I highly recommend trying them out.  The trick is to apply them after your primer and blend them out a bit, then you apply your foundation and concealer as normal.  What you have to remember is the color correctors won’t be like a magic wand and make all your “imperfections” disappear on their own but they will give your regular products a little bit of a hand.

I decided to try out the Urban Decay Naked as well as the Sephora for my first go at color correcting and neither disappointed.  I am in love with the consistency and staying power of the Urban Decay Naked.  They created such a beautiful concealer for this line and the correctors are just like a more liquidy version.  The Sephora one doesn’t blend as easily but is still a great product.  If your looking for a cheaper alternative the NYX color correcting pallet is a great way to try it out.

Have you tried color correcting?  What’s your must have color?
