Exploring my new city has been so much fun and as the days get longer I find myself taking advantage of the extra sunshine and heading to new neighborhoods and trying out new places. But I don’t really have the time nor does it make sense to go all the way home sometimes so I have to be strategic with my day look to transition seamlessly to a night out. So today I bring you a couple ideas for how to freshen up your look with some simple accessories to take your work-appropriate look from day to night.
This spring I rediscovered the shirt dress, they are definitely the perfect office dress, very clean and sophisticated. But I bet you never thought to wear it for a night out on the town but I think it’s the perfect look for a first date and you could even take this look dancing. For the day I would pair it with a pair of simple booties these Dolce Vita booties are so comfortable and would allow my feet the rest for the evening. For my night out I swapped out my trench coat and booties for a leather jacket and a pair of lace-up heels. These two pieces just add a little edge to a pretty conservative look and really put is to an evening look.
Next, I think you when you think of a leather skirt your mind immediately goes to evening wear. But I think these pieces can be really versatile and you can dress them to be more sophisticated. For the office, I would wear a pair of tights with my skirt to dress it down a bit. Throw on a nice basic t-shirt and a plaid blazer, but for the evening look shed the tights and the jacket, throw on a bold lip and pull your hair up into a messy ponytail for a rocker vibe.
Keeping with the blazer because I have been loving this power look, throwing a cool band shirt or graphic tee under your blazer with a pair of jeans is a great simple look. For day I would wear it with a pair of sneakers, loafers, or mules, and then for nights just switch the shoes out for a pair of heels and cuff the jeans for a cool look.
Lastly, I think a classic button down is such a great piece that transitions so easily. Pair it with a pair of light wash mom or girlfriend jeans, or even a pair of leather trousers for a little more edge. You can dress the jeans up for work with a pair of pumps or dress both down with a pair of loafers, for your date look switch out the flats with some strappy heels or the pumps for a pair of ankle boots. I also think a fun messy braid or a little extra texture spray in your hair adds a little mess and grit to the look.
What is your go-to evening look?
