DIY Halloween costumes

Hello my favorites ghosts and ghouls,

It is my favorite time of year again! I love when the leaves change, the air gets crisp, and I get to pull out some of my coolest decorations.  I think about my halloween costume all year long, and end up with about 10 options before October even begins but this year the end of the month has really crept up on me since we spend a long weekend in Texas last week.  So this year I have had to get creative and come up with Halloween costumes from my own closet (since the budget’s a little tight this month) here are a few fun halloween costumes you can create with a little creativity, and some basics you have right in your closet.

Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast in Tiffany’s

Holly is one of my favorite characters on the silver screen, everyone loves to dress in her iconic tiara and black dress. This year I decided to take on a different memorable scene for this character, when she meets Paul.  I simply used a large men’s dress shirt, my black ballet flats, and ordered a replica of her eye mask!  Throw on some tassel earrings, winged eyeliner and a bouffant and you’re a regular Miss Golightly!

Wendy Peffercorn

Who doesn’t love The Sandlot?  Better question who didn’t love this babe when watching it!?  Wendy is another really simple costume to put together last minute.  I was lucky enough to have my own lifeguard uniform, but a pair of red shorts and a red tank would do great too.  Footwear can be your favorite pair of sneakers, then all you need is some cat eye sunglasses, red lips and a ponytail and you’re ready to watch over the pool.

Flapper

This flapper look is by far my favorite, I bought this dress years ago on Etsy and knew I wanted to create a Daisy Buchanan look out of it.  I found this gorgeous headpiece at Charlotte Russe for Halloween and I had some vintage pearls and beads I threw on around my neck.  Any pair of chunky heels you can do the Charleston in will do just fine for this look.  Tie your hair up in a faux bob and do the smokiest eye and a dark lip and your ready for Gatsby’s Halloween party.

Tinkerbell

Tinkerbell, any blonde child’s dream costume (and my spirit animal) I was super lucky to have this green dress in my closet from a high school dance, but you can really wear any solid green dress you can find or have. I found a pair of sparkly wings and voila! you’re the tiny little fairy from Neverland

Clare Danes in Romeo and Juliet

So Romeo + Juliet is by far my favorite movie ever, who didn’t swoon during the party scene where Leo and Clare first locked eyes?  So of course I would love to dress as her in hope to find my Romeo at a halloween party!  A simple white dress and little white angel wings from the costume store is all you need to complete this look.  Wear light make up and perfect her adorable halo braid and you’re ready!

Goth Kitty

For this last look I went super simple (it’s already really cold up here) a pair of booties, knee high socks, my favorite black skater skirt and a skull tank I found at Target! I also found an adorable pair of ears at Forever21 and threw on a dark berry lip, for actual halloween I think I’m going to wear one of the amazing ColourPop lippies in Dr. M this really fun green color. This look is spooky yet cute and totally perfect for an office look.

I hope this gives you some inspiration for your Halloween costume if you’re a last minute person like me!
