Now don’t get any idea, this is not me surprising anyone with some news. My beautiful friend and soon to be bad ass momma inspired me to write this piece about how to get that radiant glow when you can’t use your normal skincare products and I’m also going to share a few places to get flattering clothes for your baby bump.
Glycolic acid- its an alpha hydroxy acid that is safe in pregnancy. Many other agents—like salicylic acid—can be damaging during that time. Glycolic acid is great for combating the hyperpigmentation that can occur from the hormonal surges that occur in pregnancy, called chloasma. So I would look for products with Glycolic acid in them like the Elizabeth Arden’s Retexturizing Pads.
You’ll want to ditch your foundation, tinted moisturizer and sunscreen in favor of all-in-one bareMinerals Complexion Rescue. This foundation has a sheer coverage with a dewy finish and big bonus, sun protection.
The Belli brand is another great brand that really caters to expectant mothers in creating natural beauty products. Their Anti-Blemish face wash has lactic acid (found naturally in the body) that gently and effectively cleanses and exfoliates acne prone skin. Lemon peel oil is a natural anti-bacterial and skin brightener. Green tea extract and cucumber are rich in antioxidants. Great for those break outs or everyday cleansing.
Of course with skincare also come what to wear! I’m sure finding clothes that are flattering can be quite difficult so here are a couple stores you can shop for some beautiful pieces designed to flatter your figure. You typically would look to Macy’s or Nordstrom, or brands like Pea in the Pod for their maternity sections but here are a few more brands you may not think of.
ASOS– I live by this brand. If there is a trend I’m dying to try out ASOS is always my first go to. Weather you’re short, tall, pregnant, or curvy, ASOS creates specific and sometimes exclusive designs for everyone. They carry high street designers who know what they’re doing with their designs and their own line is affordable and are so perfectly catered.
Target & Old Navy – If you’re looking for a great deal check out your local Target or Old Navy for some adorable styles. Both brands have some amazing maternity specific designs. The Expected by Lilac and Liz Lange designs at Target are so beautifully feminine and great for any woman to feel beautiful and comfortable.
Topshop– Another brand I love on any given day, they have the most amazing jeans and also carry them in maternity! They also have amazing designs for tops, dresses, and swim as well catered to expecting mothers.
ModCloth– This one might come to a surprise. Although they don’t have a dedicated maternity category or design, I think their designs lend themselves to flatter a mothers figure. With empire waste dresses and flowy tops ModCloth can make any mother feel beautiful.
