How to Be and Stay Creative

IMG_4905

Sometimes you can feel like your life is rather mundane.  You get up, shower, go to work, come home, make dinner, go to bed, repeat.  I think something that I really try to do is after my day at work to do something creative or to use my mind in a different way.  That’s why I love blogging so much because it gives me the opportunity to express myself creatively.  So today I wanted to share a few tips on how to stay inspired and to flex those creative muscles.

IMG_4910With a little help from my friends: I think your friends and the people you surround yourself with are the biggest influences on your creativity.  If you keep people who enjoy doing creative things they are likely to spark some creativity in you as well. This shoot was especially fun.  My wonderful friend Alicia (who I also silks with!) invited me to do this shoot and it was so much fun to get out of my normal shoot routine and try some new things!  I love getting to know people more this way.

Keep journals:  Write down all your ideas.  I carry around a small notebook in my purse for moments I’m feeling creative, whether it’s an idea for a new blog post, ideas to put in a post, products I want to try or photo shoot ideas for upcoming posts.  I also love writing a daily journal about things that are going on in life that are important or exciting.  It’s a great way to get emotions out and creativity moving.

IMG_4940Zen out: Meditating is another great way to relax and get your mind in the right place.  This is something I haven’t quite mastered but there are so many great apps that can assist you in your practice.  The one I’ve heard a lot about is Headspace.  They have sessions for anyone from beginners to advanced and even sessions dedicated to topics, one for work, creativity, and sleep.

You’ve Got Mail: I also find I look forward to getting certain emails because they really inspire me with blog post ideas and even with outfit inspiration.  I love getting the Refinery 29 emails for ideas on what’s trending and what to write about, BlogLovin also has great daily emails I love reading what’s new in beauty and fashion and lifestyle. Finally, if you just needs an inspiring and uplifting email my amazing friend Anthony DeMario does a weekly email every Monday it’s such a positive way to get your week going and to start your day off in the right state.

IMG_5003Break Out: Another great way to get creative is to get out of your day to day routine.  I am very routine oriented I like consistency.  But if I really need to get out of my head or get creative I like to change things up.  Do something different or change up when you do something in your day if you can.

Get Out: If you feel like you’re in a funk, the best way to get out of it is to get outside.  I love taking a walk or sitting in the sun. If the weather isn’t the best I think just exercising is a great way to take a step out of your head and getting creative.  I bring my notebook to the gym or use the notes on my phone to write things down when something comes to me.  If you follow me on Instagram you know I love to practice my aerial silks.  It’s a mixture of strength and my background in ballet and I’m completely hooked.  I love trying new things because you need to be very in tune with the silks and your body but I find playing a song and just moving to the beat is a great way to use your creativity.

Ask What If: Finally, just ask what if?  Ask what will happen if this happens.  And then try it out.  You’ll never know the real answer unless you take the leap.

How do you inspire your creativity?
