How To Style Cropped Pants

I love playing with trends that are often not intended for smaller women.  As a girl that only stands five flat I often have to be very careful with what trends I try to take on.  But along with midi skirts, which many shmalls seem to avoid I’ve been really loving cropped pants. I picked this pair up at Zara which right now is KILLING this game.  They have so many cute styles in all different colors and prints it was really difficult for me to just choose one pair.  So instead of shying away from cropped pants because you seem to think they will make you look shorter I’m here today to share a couple suggestions for my little ladies to rock this really great trend.

DSC_0946Go with Stripes: The first tip would have to be to pick a pair with stripes or solids, I am particularly fond of vertical stripes because they really make your legs look longer even with the cropped style.  Being short it is really important to make yourself longer as often as possible and I feel like stripes do that so well.

Heels: Obviously, another way to style this look is to wear heels.  Now, heels will definitely elevate this type of trouser and really create a more dressy look which I love.  A pair of strappy heels cropped pants and a fitted top tucked in is such a stylish look. Sandals and booties are definitely my favorite way to keep cropped pants from dwarfing more petite people. A really popular style for fall is to wear a more fitted bootie that goes just under the hem of the pants.  With a darker shade, the continuation of the pants to the shoe can really elongate you. If you aren’t really into heels or are looking for a more casual look, which I’m totally loving for this piece I love pairing them with a pair of flats or sneakers.  This is such a great way to dress down these trousers, tuck in a fun t-shirt and you’re good to go.

DSC_0945High Waist: I’m such a sucker for a high-waisted anything, I just feel like they are so flattering and really create such beautiful lines and make your legs look so long no matter how tall you are, so naturally this would also be a thing I look for in cropped trousers, I love these particular trousers because of the paper bag waist that sits really high, I love how comfy this look is with the loose waist.  With a cropped leg I think a high waist is a great balance to keep you from looking shorter.

Belts:  Next, I think some kind of belt of waist adornment is also a great way to keep the length in the legs.  Whether it’s a classic belt or a tie on the trousers I think this is also another great way to create that separation from waist to legs.  Some ways to style a belt is again making sure your trousers are high waisted and taking a gold statement belt around the waist or if your trousers have their own belt tying it in a loose knot.

DSC_0968Tucked Top: Finally, because with the wide legged cropped trouser trend in high demand you want to balance the fit of the pants with a fitted top.  I love pairing my trousers with a solid bodysuit or fitted t-shirt.  Also, as I mentioned above I love a cute classic graphic t-shirt with this look as well and some platform sneakers for a really casual look, finally I also think this trend looks fantastic with a cropped top as well.

Do you like this trend?
