How to Wear Red

This has definitely been the season for red.  I feel like everything this winter was created with the option of a bright cherry red.  As you know I have been LOVING this color trend and have embraced it wholeheartedly.  But sometimes such a bold color can often be daunting and some can feel like it doesn’t often compliment your skin tone.  This season I think designers have really done a fantastic job of finding a shade of red that matches any skin tone. So inspired by Valentine’s Day, and a great opportunity to try it out. Today I want to share a couple ways to introduce this head-turning color into your wardrobe.

redshoes2We can start small, you definitely don’t have to dress head to toe red right off the bat. Starting with a red lip is a great way to test the waters and see how you feel. Many brands have tried to create a universal red lip color but I don’t think anyone has done it better than MAC their shade Ruby Woo is a great matte lipstick that has a beautiful blue undertone. This lip color looks great on any skin tone and bonus points the blue undertones make your teeth look whiter.  Another favorite red lipstick I’ve been loving is Kat Von D’s new Studded Kiss collection in the shade is Misfit. They have coined it as a pure scarlet red.  It’s a very deep cherry and I’m obsessed with the creme formula.

I have also been obsessed with the beret trend lately and I think a red beret is a beautiful way to make any monochrome outfit very chic.

An all-black outfit is a perfect opportunity to incorporate a little red.  I also think red is the best color to add when you’re looking for a statement piece in an all-black outfit.  Whether it’s a beret or a beautiful pair of shoes I just think this color makes such a statement so easily.

If you’re feeling a little more comfortable with the trend I would advice breaking into the sweater and dress categories.  As you’ve seen in my previous post and my December Monthly Favorites.  I have been living in my roll neck sweater.  It’s so cozy and I just love how bold the color is.  Paired with a pair of black jeans and a pair of pumps and you can really dress this sweater up.

This option is not for the faint of heart.  If you’re feeling ready I suggest a good red dress.  If you’re really looking to turn some heads a bodycon dress, I think is a great way to make you feel incredibly confident.  Brands like ASOS, MissGuided, and Lulus have amazing options in different styles for some really great prices. You can dress down a red dress with a pair of tights and flats or dress it up with some heels for a night out.  I think red is definitely a trend everyone should be trying.

What’s your favorite red piece?
