I don’t know about you but as the pandemic drags on and we continue to wear masks I only miss wearing cute lipsticks that much more. In the fall is when I bust out all the lipsticks and that’s my way of not only adding color to my inevitably neutral wardrobe but also I find myself skipping real makeup in the fall and winter and lipstick is the way I get away with it. But because masks have become a regular staple in our daily looks I’ve shied away from wearing lipstick because I’m afraid of the consequences. But the last few weeks I’ve stumbled upon some fantastic shades and combinations for mask-friendly lip color.
Limecrime Velvetines
I think liquid lips are the way to go when it comes to our new found mask life. Matte type dries down and are less likely to transfer to your mask. The LimeCrime Velevetines are my all-time favorite, they’re bold and pigmented and also have a great color selection.
Fall Shades: Buffy, Wicked, Beet It, Salem, Bloodmoon, & Saint
Charlotte Tilbury – M.I.KISS
I love Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks, they are hydrating and have beautiful pigmentation that never looks cakey or smudgy, I also love that when you reapply it also doesn’t look layered on. It’s not completely transfer-proof but is mask friendly. The M.I.Kiss is my new favorite lip and honestly, I could see this one becoming my go-to everyday lip. It’s a dark enough red to give your lips a rosy bite but still subtle enough for those days you’re not feeling a deep fall color. I’m obsessed.
Honorable Mention Fall Color – Glastonberry
Pat McGrath Labs – Guinevere
Pat McGrath Labs makes beautiful lipsticks. Their packaging is to die for. This lip also has great pigmentation. Also not mask proof but are great for your Zoom calls for work when you need a bit of color. Guinevere is a gorgeous crimson with strong red tones. It’s a matte lipstick but feels so creamy and hydrating.
Honorable Mentions: Deep Orchid, Full Blooded, Vendetta, 1995
Laura Mercier Velour Extreme Matte Lipstick in Fresh + Iconic Nude Charlotte Tilbury Liner
This Combo is absolute perfection… this is by far my favorite deeper everyday lipstick/lipliner combo. I always recommend adding a lip liner to your lipstick routine, it helps keep the edges in place, and I also like smudging the liner all over my lips for something to give the lip color to stick to. These Laura Mercier lipsticks come in the coolest long bullet that are so easy to throw in your purse on the go, and Fresh is a beautiful deep nude pink. If the Crimsons and dark berries aren’t your thing, this shade allows you to dip your toe into the water without committing. I love pairing it with my all-time favorite lip liner by Charlotte Tilbury the Iconic Nude liner is deeper than Pillow Talk (also an amazing shade) with the mixture the liner gives the pink a bit more brown tones and makes it a tad darker.

To take your fall lip colors to the next level and help them stay all day you need to also hydrate, and exfoliate your lips so they don’t look dry and flakey. I love using a sugar scrub one or two times a week and a hydrating balm before bed or on days I go without. I love the LANEIGELip Sleeping Mask and for a cheap tried and, true I use Aquafore to hydrate and plump my lips.
