My Picks from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

It’s time again for the Annual Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. For the last few years, I have avoided writing about this sale. For one I am trying to change my relationship with shopping and I hate how fashion influencers so easily promote overconsumption. Two, as I’ve gotten older I’ve focused on timeless clothing and less on trends so I feel like my list isn’t as fun and exciting, and three I’ve found peddling affiliate links and trying to convince people to buy more stuff has just felt icky.

With that said, I started this blog to help friends and family find new items they are looking for to fill out their wardrobes. So instead of just giving you all the trendiest pieces and expensive items, this list is going to be some important brands that are sustainable, petite friendly, my holy grail items that you can get at a discount, and items I am lusting over that I would pick up if I weren’t doing a no buy all summer.

If you are new to the Anniversary Sale, Nordstrom will be previewing the following seasons’ items and trends, this year it’s a bit earlier which I think is a weird choice. I don’t know about you but I’m still focused on my summer wardrobe and not even thinking about coats or sweaters.

Nordstrom Cardholders can shop the sale now (there are tiers but 11th to the 14th is early access, and then the sale is opened up to the general public on Monday the 15th. My recommendation is to open up a Nordstrom card next year if you want to shop early.

While I find sales like this as an easy gateway to over-consumption and shopping just to shop, I do find that this is a great way to shop for some sustainable brands while getting a discount. I also think shopping intentionally as well as with companies that understand their impact on our environment and incentivize their customers to be more conscious of their carbon footprint.

Nordstrom is one of those companies, not only do they carry some amazing sustainable brands but they have sustainability efforts of their own. They are more thoughtful with their packaging, using recycled materials in their bags and trying to limit the number of single-use plastics.

Something I just learned about was that you can also donate your used clothes to Nordstrom. But if you want to ship your donations to them you can fill a box and use a pre-paid label you can find here.

But wait it gets better… Nordstrom is also looking to recycle 100 tons of beauty packaging by 2025. At any Nordstrom beauty center, you can bring your cleaned-out haircare, skincare, and makeup empties and they will make sure they are disposed of properly for you.

Its initiatives of this that make me feel good about shopping with a brand or company and I think it is imperative that more brands in the fashion and beauty industry do more things like this. So if you want to get a jump start on filling out your autumn wardrobe this is a great way to do so and still do a little bit to protect the environment. Please, shop responsibly
