With Fashion Week Paris wrapping up I have really been looking over the ever growing list of pieces I want to add to my wardrobe. As I get older I’ve really realized the importance of a really timeless wardrobe. Trends come and go, and as they come back more frequently these days just knowing that as I age my wardrobe will continue to be classic and elegant is a sigh of relief. Here are just a few of the pieces I can’t live without for the winter months.
Outerwear
With it being winter of course outerwear is a must, here in Syracuse lows are in the negatives (brr!) so of course you need some cute coats to get you from place to place.
Leather Jacket, a good leather jacket is a must in any wardrobe, it adds just that little bit of edge to any outfit. You can also wear it for fall, and spring! In the winter putting a hooded sweatshirt under makes it a little more casual and adds a little bit more warmth. I love the bomber style jackets, they hit at the waist and are so perfect with jeans, or dresses.
Next, is the blazer. This is the perfect item to make any outfit you wear look put together like you’re going to a business meeting. This screams I’m a badass bitch who has life all figured out (fake it ’til you make it am I right?)
No winter capsule is complete without… you guessed it, my cape! This thing is absolutely my ride or die. As I said in my post highlighting this gorgeous coat, it is so versatile and gives such a feminine classic touch to any outfit.
Last but not least a sort of outerwear item I couldn’t leave off this list is my blanket cape, this is my best friend on those extra cold days. I love throwing it over any look for something a little bit more cozy for the office.
Bottoms
I find these three pant options on permanent rotation this time of year. Like I said, the weather is so cold having bare legs is less than ideal.
My skinny jeans have stuck with me since high school. From Vans slip ons and band tees they have grown with me and been to perfect base to any type of outfit. A fitted ankle with a beautiful pair of pumps is so classic, you can wear them tucked into boots, with sneakers, and flats. These pants are a must in dark indigo and black. I have just about every shade in my closet.
This time of year I feel like my closet turns to a Parisian in mourning. Nothing but black, black, some dark grey, and a little more black. So a great pair of patterned trousers is a great way to add a little texture and maybe some color back into a very monochrome outfit.
Of course my leather leggings are a no brainer for this list. I love wearing them on a lazy Monday with a big old sweater as well as a cute top and a pair of pumps for a night out. These disco pants are so cute and perfect with the pocket details on the back and that high waist perfect for a crop top if you want.
Tops
No closet is complete without a white t-shirt. Everyone should have one in their fashion arsenal. They are great to throw on under anything, dress down any outfit or a a great base for any classic look, and not to mention you can get them for so cheap.
A button down top is another fantastic addition to any outfit. I love the chiffon style tops and I have them in a bunch of different colors. I think the drape of the fabric is so beautiful and really is so flattering. I love paring this top with a pair of slacks and pumps for a great business casual look.
Of course in the winter layers are so important, and no layered look is finished without a flannel. The red plaid I think is by far my favorite. I love throwing it over a plain tee with a pair of boots for such an easy fashionable look.
This. Turtleneck bodysuit. is. the best! I am so in love with this piece. The bodysuit was such a staple for me as a dancer but I now how a new appreciation for them! They create such great lines for any look. No need to tuck anything in, and worry about bunching.
To continue the turtleneck train, I am in love with turtleneck sweaters there is something so Audrey Hepburn about a black turtleneck sweater.
Finally, nothing screams cozy winter wardrobe like a chunky sweater this sweater is by far my favorite for this season, it’ so think and cozy and has an adorable bow detail in the back. I wear it with leggings all the time for those bitter cold days.
Dresses
Ok so I have to admit, I would say about 60 percent of my closet is dresses… as a girl in grade school I wore dresses just about every day but gym day. I love dresses. I think they are the epitome of feminine, and so easy to wear.
Spring, Summer, winter and fall, a Little Black Dress is perfect for any season for that classic look. I wear mine with tights and over the knee socks for a more casual look, you can thrown on a fun button down, or that flannel for some layers and of course can’t forget some booties.
As I’ve gotten older I’ve found myself less and less interested in the tight fitting dresses, body con often times makes me feel very self conscious. Because of this my favorite dress type has become the shift dresses. Just ate an entire container of Oreo’s and 4 slices of pizza? No worries this dress flatters any body shape.
This beautiful dress has recently made it’s way into my wardrobe. Military style pieces have made a serious comeback, from the army green color to the very structured shapes. I think the dresses in this style are so beautiful and always look so sophisticated.
Footwear
Shoes! Oh my favorite part of any outfit! I feel like a beautiful pair of shoes can really be the icing on any look. When I was younger I was always focused on comfort rather than esthetic and never looked to anything more than the normal department stores for my shoe options. But the last few months I have really found a new passion for a beautiful pair of shoes and have now learned where to find them!
You are probably so over me talking about my over the knee boots already, but I can’t explain just how much I love these shoes! They are so perfect and give me so much confidence. They give any outfit just a little but more sex appeal without making it slutty. Check out the post about these gorgeous boots for a little more inspiration.
Every girl needs that perfect pair of classic heels, the pointed toe is so gorgeous and really elongates the foot, which is nice for my tiny little feet. I will be doing a post all about these beauties because they have really changed my life (not at all dramatic I know) I never bought into the designer hype before these babies came into my life.
Of course if you aren’t a heels person a classic pair of flats are a must as well. Though I truly believe every girl needs to have one pair of classic black heels that they know they can wear and are confident in. These flats look quite similar to my favorite heels with the very pointed toe.
Finally, the last pair of shoes that are a must for winter are a cute pair of ankle boots. When the rest of your outfit is big and chunky I think having a smaller pair of shoes just make the outfit look so much more put together. I love how they make my legs look so much longer and my jeans fit so perfectly in to them.
The winter blanket cape looks so cosy but fashionable😍 I just followed your blog & would love you to follow mine https://paigerebeccax.wordpress.com/ 💕

Thank you so much!!
Nice post! Love that middle shirt dress. I really should try to reduce my wardrobe down, but I just can’t say no to shopping! I pretty much live in tea dresses with tights and boots in the winter x

Thank you so much! I just picked that one up from MissGuided recently actually! I love a cute little dress and tights! With a pair of over the knee socks is darling! I can’t get out of the shops either but I validate 5 new items in my wardrobe by getting rid of at least one thing I haven’t worn in 12 months 😉
Just have two words for you. Leather and trousers. Best thing ever when it’s blowy out and super flattering. Fits in with your capsule wardrobe philosophy too.

Oh my gosh yes! Where do you find the best ones? I can’t seem to find any that are flattering and aren’t too expensive!
Genuine leather is a bit of a challenge. Took me around half a year of searching, but found them in a charity shop for £12. I’ve seen another pair recently at a vintage shop too. My tip is to profile the neighbourhood, it sounds bad to judge but it’s more likely to find cast off leatherwear in wealthier places. That said Vivienne Westwood’s retail outlet was selling them at rather competitive prices recently.
